Viola Davis had a lot to celebrate last night.

Not only was she one of the powerhouse ladies honored at Elle's Women in Hollywood gala, but she's also a new mom!

Octavia Spencer actually broke the big news when she was presenting her Help costar with her award, announcing that Davis became a mother "just two days ago."

During Davis' acceptance speech, she thanked her husband Julius Tennon and "our new baby Genesis."

She said of their daughter, "[She] really is a new beginning."

E! News was the first to tell you in August that the couple was in the process of adopting a baby. Davis said at The Help premiere in L.A. that the infant would be adopted "domestically."

This is Davis and Tennon's first child together. Tennon also has two adult children.

While Davis didn't mention the new arrival on the carpet, she did talk about another dream she has—she wants to be an action star!

"I do want to do a sci-fi and kick someone's butt real bad," she told me.

Her dream director? Ridley Scott.
