Sadly, it didn't take long for the haters out there to start trashing Bono after it was revealed on Monday that he would be competing on the new season of Dancing With the Stars.
Mama bear Cher isn't having it...
"Lovelies! Chaz is Being Viciously Attacked on Blogs & Message boards about being on DWTS!," she tweeted this afternoon. "This is Still America right? It took guts 2 do it."
Go, Cher!
"I support him no matter what he chooses 2do!" she also tweeted. "God! will there always be haters! It took COURAGE 2 do dwts! TG Chaz has an Unlimited supply."
She tweeted a few minutes later, "Can u guys check out sites & give him your support ? BTW ...Mothers don't stop Getting angry with stupid bigots who fk with their children!"
Bono tweeted, "@cher Thanks for all your support mom. The haters are just motivating me to work harder and stay on DWTS as long as I possibly can."
Bono says he didn't tell his mom he was doing the show until the day before the new crop of contestants was announced on Monday.
"She really thought it was great that I was doing it and I just wanted to know how I was feeling about it, if I was nervous and how it was going," he told E! News's Ryan Seacrest earlier today during his morning radio show.
So what took him so long to break the news? "ABC put the fear of God into me," Bono said, adding, "I really wanted to respect their wanting to try to keep this private as long as possible."
