Call it the dog days of spring.

Maybe attending the London 2012 Olympics kickoff last Friday put Kate Middleton and Prince William into a particularly sporty state of mind, because the royal couple, along with Prince Harry,  joined forces Sunday afternoon to participate in a charity polo match in Ascot, England.

Well, Wills and Harry did most of the participating. Kate, on the other hand, cheered the boys on as best she could, despite having her attentions slightly divided...

That's because joining her on the sidelines was the luckiest dang dog in the United Kingdom, her new pup Lupo!

And talk about a scene-stealer: The black cocker spaniel somehow managed to wrangle almost more attention from the assembled masses than the royals themselves, with Prince Harry even taking a break from the action at one point to lavish attention on the heirs' best friend.

As for the occasion that brought the gang together in the first place, the royal brothers were participating in the second day of the Audi Polo Challenge, an event they take part in every year to raise funds for their chosen charities. This year's chosen recipient of the money raised is Harry's pet project, Sentebale.

Kate, who donned a Libélula shirtdress and Stuart Weitzman wedges for the sunny day outing, was kept company during the play by both Lupo and one of her royal aides. All told, more than 200 guests were in attendance to watch the princes' team best their opponents, among them actors Gemma Arterton and Tom Hardy.
