After the sharp chiding she received from human rights activists after attending a party for Chechen President (and reputed despot) Ramzan Kaydrov, the two-time Oscar winner isn't taking any more chances with her image.
According to multiple reports, including Deadline.com, Swank has dropped her manager of eight years, Jason Weinberg, as well as her longtime CAA agents, Amie Yavor and Josh Lieberman.
In a statement following her appearance at the concert, Swank said, "I deeply regret attending this event, which has thrown into question my long and deeply-held commitment to the protection of human rights."
In return for a six-figure paycheck, Swank took to the stage to wish Kaydrov a happy birthday, saying, "Really, truly, for me this was a great honor to learn more about you and your country and what you're building. Happy birthday, Mr. President."
Swank vowed to earmark whatever money she received for a charitable organization.
Jean-Claude Van Damme and Vanessa Mae also took heat from Human Rights Watch for their attendance at the event, which Kadyrov insisted was not a party in recognition of his birth but of the city of Grozny's rebirth, but no one besides Swank has issued a mea culpa.
"I love you, Mr. Kadyrov!" was how Van Damme concluded his speech to the leader.
Kadyrov was appointed president of Chechnya by Russia's then-president Vladimir Putin in 2007. He has been credited with suppressing a violent insurgency, but his methods, rumored to be brutal, have been questioned by HRW and other critics.
