Heidi Klum's lips have remained sealed when it comes to her shocking split with Seal.

Although her estranged hubby has chatted up his feelings about a possible reconciliation, she's been noticeably discreet, hitting up the beach with her kids or attending charity galas, but always keeping her private life private.

Until now.

In the latest issue of Elle, the 38-year-old supermodel breaks her silence about the split and talks about the toll it's taken on her, as well as the impact the public scrutiny could have on their children...

"I feel like I'm in the eye of the tornado," she tells the mag. "It's emotions inside of your body that are a tornado. And then the outside world doing all this craziness—with you wanting it or not wanting it—is another tornado. But as hard as it is, so is life."

Despite the media frenzy, Klum has tried to maintain a civil and graceful approach to all the unwanted attention, mainly for the sake of their four children.

"I don't want to talk positively or negatively about the ups and downs that we had," she explains about their seven-year marriage. "Every couple goes through things. Unfortunately, we're in the public, so the highs are out there. But I don't think it's necessary—especially for our children—to have the lows being printed in magazines and talked about."

And it's her children, with their innocence and honesty, who keep her firmly grounded. "The kids don't edit anything," she says. "When they kiss you and tell you they love you and say, ‘Mama, you're the best'—that's really the only thing you care about."

In January, Seal, 49, spoke to CNN about the separation and hinted at his desire to patch things up.

"Of course we've had problems," he told Piers Morgan. "Otherwise, why are we splitting up? This is not a charade. We have problems. We have issues. But, in our favor, I think that to our credit, we have always been able to talk about it. We have always been able to confront each other."

Judging from Klum's solo outings and her desire to move forward, the only thing she seems to be confronting these days is her new life as a single gal.
