Giuliana & Bill Rancic Share In Vitro Struggle

E! News host discusses her issues with infertility on The View, and things get a little uncomfortable...

Possibly in an effort to make up for yesterday's Octocrazy, today was a very special infertility edition of The View. Any Giuliana & Bill fans out there are pretty familiar with our E! News host Giuliana Rancic's struggle with infertility so she, along with Bill, stopped by the show to discuss it further. The couple has been trying to get pregnant for over a year and will start in vitro fertilization next week.

Citing age as the No. 1 obstacle in her baby quest, Giuliana always thought getting pregnant would be easy since the celebrities she's interviewed for the past 10 years seem to do it so easily at age 35 or 40. But, as she's now learned, it really isn't that easy for them either.

"A lot of these women get IVF, and they just don't talk about it," she says. "And listen, celebrities are entitled to their privacy. I'm not saying 'shame on you for not talking about it.' But if we can talk about it and let women know that it's OK, look at all your options."

However, there is also the issue of her weight...

The Rancics' doctor recommended Giuliana gain some weight. As easy and fun as that sounds, she's had trouble with doing it for a couple reasons.

"He said 5-10 pounds, which I know isn't a big deal and if you want to have a baby you should do whatever it takes. I had to bite that bullet. You have to understand something. I work out everyday of my life, I love feeling good, waking up, working out. I finally did gain the 5 pounds. We're working on more."

This argument was a tougher sell to the View ladies than the age thing. Whoopi even interjected with, "You know what, you want to have a baby, you need to prepare your body for that other person who's going to be there. And there's no buts. If you want a baby, this is what you have to do. So you have to make that decision."

The remark kinda put Giuliana on the defense and she further explained:

"I'm on television every day. You know, I have a stylist who's pretty hard on me who brings me sample sizes. Every single day I'm on the air, and he's bringing me clothes. Listen, I'm a very open person, I'm insecure. You know, I'm insecure like a lot people are and I can talk about that."

It was all a bit awkward and Barbara tried her best to clear the air with, "We don't want to tell you how to live your life. 5 pounds or 10 pounds, you're lovely."

But it's like Giuliana tweeted afterward: "It got bumpy but as long as we helped women, it was worth it :)"
