Talk about a dose of reality.

Gator hunter apprentice Nicholas Payne has gone from the swamp to a Louisiana jail cell after the former Swamp People star allegedly assaulted a cop, according to the Times-Picayune.

So what went down?

When a deputy responded to complaints about a disturbance at a private residence in New Orleans, the reality star allegedly hit the officer and tried to make a run for it as he was being cited for the snafu.

Obviously, he didn't get too far.

Payne was plucked from a wooded area and sent to jail the morning of Sept. 23, and charged with disturbing the peace, battery of a police officer, resisting an officer and being a fugitive from another state.

But this wasn't Payne's first run-in with the law (hence the fugitive charge).

In 2010, Payne pleaded guilty to simple battery and resisting an officer, and was sentenced to one year of probation.

Then in June, police in Okaloosa County, Fla., reportedly busted Payne on accusations of drug paraphernalia possession.

While he posted bond, he failed to appear in court on the day he was supposed to enter a plea and racked up a fugitive arrest warrant, which New Orleans Police discovered while booking him for the alleged assault incident.

As for what the History channel (the home of Swamp People) had to say on the incident, the network told E! News, "Nicholas has not been part of the show since filming concluded last season...and we have no additional comment."

Payne's bail was set at $10,000, which according to TMZ he has yet to pay.
