As of today he's been suspended from his job as creative director for famed French design house Christian Dior for a spat he had with a couple in a Paris café last night, in which Galliano allegedly assaulted the duo and barraged them with anti-Semitic insults. His tirade ended with him being detained by police.
And that didn't sit well with Dior.
"Dior affirms with the utmost conviction its policy of zero tolerance towards any antisemitic or racist works or behavior," Dior's Chief Executive Sidney Toledano confirmed in a statement to E! News today. "Pending the results of the inquiry, Christian Dior has suspended John Galliano from his responsibilities."
We're guessing he won't be attending Paris Fashion Week, which kicks off next Tuesday. Dior's presentation is set for March 4.
Although official details are scant, witnesses told the U.K.'s Telegraph that Galliano—a feisty Brit who's worked at the chic company for 14 years—had been at a bar in the Marais district and, for some unspecified reason, accosted the couple while they sat nearby on a terrace at a restaurant. Police were called to break up the incident, which happened in front of a large crowd. The couple, along with bar staff and other onlookers, gave statements to officers.
Reuters, citing police sources, says Galliano, 50, was taken into custody and failed a sobriety test. He was later escorted home by police and is facing possible assault charges.
Galliano lawyer Stephane Zerbib refutes the allegations and says that the designer has filed a complain against the couple for alleged defamation, threats and insults.
Despite his current woes, not all is bleak for the designer—he's still set to create Kate Moss' wedding dress.
