It looks as if the state of Oregon agrees with Daniel Baldwin.

A week after his estranged wife Joanne filed for divorce and asked for sole custody of their two daughters, agents from the state's Department of Human Services removed the girls from their mother's care.

Baldwin, who called the news sad, exclusively tells E! News that the children are with a family friend until he gets home tonight from shooting a film.

"Sadly I must report that my daughters, Avis and Finley, have been removed from their mother's home by the Department of Human Services in Oregon last night," he confirmed in a statement released by his rep.

He did not go into detail as to the alleged issues he says were cited by the DHS.

"The children were removed from Joanne's home and given to a family friend and are in this friend's custody until I return from filming in Texas Thursday night," Daniel continued. "At this time in accordance with DHS's directive the children will return to my care. I am sad for all involved but feel that this measure was in the girls' best interest. I love my beautiful babies and will continue to be the caring protective parent I have always been."

The DHS told E! News that such matters pertaining to minors are kept private and they are unable to comment.

Joanne filed for divorce last Thursday for the Oregonian equivalent of California's "irreconcilable differences" roughly two months after Daniel dropped his own divorce petition. In addition to sole custody, she wants $4,000 per month in child support and for her ex to take out a $1 million life insurance policy for the benefit of Avis, 3, and Finley, 2.

A source close to Daniel told E! News that reports of their reconciliation afterward were false, however, and that the couple haven't lived together for several months.

After Daniel initially moved to divorce Joanne and obtain a restraining order against her, claiming she had threatened to slit his throat, Mrs. Baldwin was sentened to 10 days in jail for drinking while on probation for a prior DUI.

This is Daniel's third marriage. He and Joanne tied the knot in July 2007.
