Russell Armstrong was not under the influence when he committed suicide.

Toxicology tests found that there were no drugs or alcohol in his system when he hanged himself with a piece of electrical cord last month, Los Angeles County Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter confirmed Wednesday to E! News.

The body of Taylor Armstrong's estranged husband was discovered the night of Aug. 15 and an autopsy confirmed it was a suicide days later, but results of the tox screen were pending.

Unfortunately, the latest news is really no more than one small piece of a very sad puzzle.

The second season of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills premiered Monday after a scramble on Bravo's part to reedit footage of the Armstrongs that, in retrospect, would appear even more exploitative than usual in the wake of Russell's death.

The late hedge fund manager's mother, attorney and others close to him said that being portrayed negatively on the reality show took a toll on Russell's mental state, contributing to his overall depression.

John Ann Hotchkiss told HLN that she had faith Bravo would "keep it tasteful" when it came to future scenes involving her son.

After weeks of being only slightly heard and not at all seen, Taylor was spotted last week taking daughter Kennedy  to a party in Beverly Hills. The 6-year-old was dressed in head-to-toe pink, according to an onlooker, while mom was keeping it casual in jeans.
