Ever wonder who gets Giuliana Rancic and Ryan Seacrest looking flawless for the E! News cameras everyday?

Meet celeb makeup artist Kat Connelly. She's been working at E! for the past five years, can't resist a cat-eye and red lip ("I have naturally black hair and I'm super pale so it's the best look I can possibly to do on myself") and was more than happy to talk red carpet trends with us...

What type of makeup do you think we'll see on the GRAMMYS red carpet?
"The Grammys are always known for being cutting edge and taking risks that you wont see on any other red carpet. Music lets things be more daring, more eccentric. Like Katy Perry or Lady Gaga or even Nicki Minaj. They're going to do things more over the top than usual. Gaga's in an egg, somebody else is in a light up dress, the makeup is crazy. I've seen pretty, I've seen guys in makeup, you see it all."

If you're doing Giuliana Rancic's makeup, how does the look need to change from what you would do for the Emmys or Oscars?
"Last year, Giuliana's dress was a little more eccentric with an elaborate shoulder and her hair was up so we did a little bit of an edgy, swept up runway effect on the eyes that you would never do for the Oscars. It's always fun for those kinds of things because the dress is more edgy and then you add the makeup, hair and jewelry. At the other awards shows, you want classic beauty, you can't do an eccentric dress with too much face. But I love music so anything like that."

Which red carpet trend would you encourage people to try at home?
"I would encourage people at home to try a little cream eyeliner with the cat-eye look. Once you practice a couple of times you'll get it down and you feel so glamorous. But the first time you try it, do it just before you're going to wash your face. Then if you don't like it, you don't have to worry about going out later since you're washing your face to go bed anyway."

What's the red carpet trick to making your makeup last as long as possible?
"I always say foundation primer. That's gonna help your foundation last longer. Keep blotting sheets with you. That way you're not just adding bunch of makeup throughout the night, just blot to freshen up. And eyeshadow primer is unbelievable, it works great. For lips if you do a matte lipstick and you don't want to touch up later, just bring some gloss to put a little moisture back on to your lips."

Of all the musical performers, who are you looking forward to seeing on the GRAMMYS red carpet?
"You're always going to get something great. I liked Florence last year, I liked her dress, it was cool and pretty but her makeup was very simple. Makeup-wise Nicki Minaj, she does craziest makeup, I think it's so cute. She plays with color, it's always really fun and that's always nice to see."
