Julianne Moore has no problem baring it all. Italian authorities on the other hand...

The 49-year-old actress, famous for flaunting her freckled bod in films like The Big Lebowski, Boogie Nights, The End of the Affair and Short Cuts, is now at the center of controversy in Venice over a racy Bulgari billboard featuring her lounging naked on a velvet divan, petting two lion cubs.

And what, pray tell, has the Italians all worked up?

The ad, in which Julianne's privates are strategically covered with a bag from the fashion house, was supposed to be erected in Doge's Palace, overlooking St. Mark's Square and Venice's lagoon, but the city's mayor declared it too risqué and had it banned, according to London's Telegraph.

Seems Mayor Giorgio Orsoni has nothing against Julianne or her work, personally. He's planning on replacing her naked photo with a less racy one of a fully clothed Moore  modeling Bulgari jewels instead.

Asked why he was opposed to the nude, but tasteful billboard, Orsoni told Italian news media, "An advertisement showing a nude woman on a divan is not appropriate for St Mark's Square."

The city council argues that such advertising by Hollywood stars brings in much needed funds for restoration, but has been criticized for supposedly salacious subject matter.

Banning the ad won't stop visitors to the square of seeing less of Moore though. She can currently been seen without all her clothes on the big screen in The Kids Are Alright.
