At least her dress looked nice.

That's about all Army Wives star Kim Delaney had going for her last night at the Liberty Medal Awards, where the actress mangled a speech so badly she had to be escorted offstage.

The disheveled actress, who has been treated for alcohol abuse in the past, shocked the military audience by slurring her words, making strange gestures and fibbing about her own experience in the armed services.

At the event honoring former defense secretary Robert Gates, Delaney rambled on the podium about "having served in active military duty family for five years."

"I've seen soldiers come home with painful life-altering injuries borne of their time and service," she slurred. "I've attended numerous military funerals, including that of my best friend's son."

Only later in the speech, did she clarify that these experiences were storylines from her Lifetime series: "I do that as a job."

"It's all make believe," she said. "I have the luxury to do all of this on a television show."

The audience grew visibly more uncomfortable as the speech went on, shifting in their seats and gazing at Delaney in shocked bewilderment.

Thankfully, the Emmy-winning former NYPD Blue actress was led off the stage before her rant was finished.

In 2002, Delaney was arrested for DUI in Malibu, and the following year sought treatment for alcohol abuse.

Coincidentally, the actress, who also starred in All My Children, is scheduled to appear today in a pretaped episode of The View, a special sendoff to the long-running soap.
