Guess not everyone thought this year's Oscars were a total flop. In fact, one standout moment might've even secured Anne Hathaway a pretty prestigious new gig.

E! News has confirmed that the A-list actress with the powerful pipes has formally signed on to star alongside Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe in the surely Academy-baiting movie musical (directed by The King's Speech's Tom Hooper, no less), Les Misérables.

Hathaway has been cast in the role of Fantine, for which she has long been contending, reportedly beating out fellow rumored thesps Amy Adams and Rebecca Hall for the part.

Maybe her hosting gig gave her the edge she needed? At this year's Oscars, Hathaway famously belted out a parody version of "On My Own" (right musical, wrong character) in which she skewered her future costar Hugh Jackman. The full circle moment has even deeper roots, of course, as two years prior, during Jackman's hosting stint, she joined the Aussie onstage for a Frost/Nixon-inspired duet.

Jackman, meanwhile, will be playing Jean Valjean in the adaptation, while Crowe takes on the role of Inspector Javert.

The film has already been slated for a Dec. 7, 2012 release—which, incidentally, is shaping up to be something of a banner year for the starlet. In addition to Les Misérables, The Dark Knight Rises is also due out next summer. Now that's versatility.
