The girl living in the backwoods of Tennessee comes with quite the backstory.

On last night's American Idol season premiere, Amy Brumfield impressed the judges with her voice and sad tale of being unemployed and living in a tent.

But while she may be new to American TV audiences, Brumfield isn't a stranger to the local cops...

Brumfield is no criminal mastermind or anything, but the 24-year-old from Gatlinburg, Tenn., has been arrested at least five times since 2005, according to authorities and public records.

In 2005, at the age of 19, she was busted for criminal trespassing and held on $1,000 bail in Pigeon Forge, in the Smoky Mountain foothills.

Brumfield was arrested twice in 2007, the first time for remaining on private property after she had been evicted and the second time for underage consumption of alcohol. She pleaded guilty and was sentenced to probation for the alcohol offense.

The Gatlinburg Police Department also confirms to E! News that Brumfield was arrested twice in nine days for public intoxication in August 2010, first for exhibiting "extreme intoxication" at a restaurant and then again when an officer observed her appearing "very unsteady on her feet" in Linebergers Plaza after she supposedly urinated in the lobby of a Baskin Robbins.

Hey, reinvention and the chance to turn over a new leaf are all part of the American dream, right?! Fox had no comment, so whether it's allowed to be a part of the American Idol dream remains to be seen.
