Five Lingering Mysteries From Demi Moore's 911 Emergency

Following the Margin Call star's scary hospitalization, we take a look at a few of the unknowns surrounding her health scare

To say the last couple of days have been rough for Demi Moore would be an understatement.

Still reeling from her split from hubby of seven years Ashton Kutcher, the Margin Call star was rushed to the hospital last Monday after a health scare that left her convulsing on the floor.

Aside from revealing that she was seeking treatment for exhaustion following the incident—and the 911 phone call bombshell that she was "smoking something" that left her semi-conscious—we are still trying to piece together what went down on

Here are the five biggest lingering mysteries from Moore's 911 emergency. 

1. What was the "incense-like" substance Moore was smoking?

In the dramatic 911 recprding from the night Moore was hospitalized, the caller says, "she smoked something. It's not marijuana but it's similar to incense. She seems to be having convulsions of some sort. She's semi-conscious…She's convulsing."

So, what exactly was she smoking?

Theories regarding that have ranged from salvia to some sort of "herbal incense," which is marketed widely online.

Dr. David Baron, who has never treated the actress, told E! News, "Even though we are speculating, it is not unreasonable to believe [the substance Moore's friends say she was smoking in the 911 call] may have been salvia."

"It makes perfect sense," Dr. Baron continued. "Salvia is in the herb family."

Salvia can be a "powerful hallucinogen...perhaps as powerful as LSD in some people," according to the medical professional.

Meanwhile, as other media outlets have theorized that Moore was smoking K2 Spice, an herbal incense similar to marijuana, according to the New York Post, the specific item that Moore was smoking has yet to be revealed.

2. Was Moore Taking Anything Else?

While it is clearly audible on the tape that Moore smoked something prior to her hospitalization, references to Moore inhaling "whip-its" were reportedly removed from the tape by the Los Angeles Fire Department at the request of the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office for privacy reasons. According to TMZ, paramedics on the scene were told Moore had used whip-its to inhale nitrous oxide, just before she started convulsing. There is no reference to whip-its or other drugs on the version of the 911 tape released to the public and calls to both the LAFD and city attorney were not immediately returned.

3. Was Daughter Rumer Willis There When the Incident Occurred?

On the 911 call, a voice can be heard talking to someone named "Rue."

"Hey, Rue, what's the name at the gate so that we can buzz them in from here?" a man is heard saying during the call.

As it turns out, Demi's eldest daughter Rumer goes by that nickname, and even uses it on her Twitter page @therue. Again, there has been no confirmation from Moore or Willis' reps about whether the young actress was present at the time.

4. Has Ashton Seen Demi Yet?

During Moore's incident, Kutcher was doing a photo shoot for clothing brand Colcci's new catalog in Brazil with pregnant Victoria's Secret supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio.

The 33-year-old Two and a Half Men star, who was out partying with friends while in the South American country, didn't get back to the states until two days after Moore was hospitalized.  

Sources close to Kutcher told People, "Ashton is deeply concerned for Demi" and that "he still cares about her and wants the best for her. But their marriage is ending and they are both moving on with their lives."

E! News has confirmed that Kutcher is staying in a gated community about two miles from Moore's home. But whether the former couple has been in contact since Ashton's return to the states is not yet known.

5. Where Is Demi Now and Is She Still Receiving Treatment?

Moore has since been released from the hospital, but has yet to emerge in public. Shortly after her hospitalization, her publicist told us that the actress had decided to seek treatment for exhaustion and "to improve her overall health." But it's not know if she will seek outpatient treatment or if she indeed has returned to her home.

Meanwhile, Demi's director pal Patty Jenkins told E! News at the Directors Guild Awards Saturday that she "just saw [Moore] and she's doing great."

"I think she's doing much better than it's made out to be," Jenkins said.

That's one question we're glad has a good answer.
