Demi Lovato has never shied away from sharing her personal struggles with drugs and alcohol.

As she grew up in the Hollywood spotlight, the actress and singer found herself checking into rehab and taking breaks from the spotlight.

But whether it was through her music, social media posts or letters to fans, Demi would keep things open and honest about her sobriety, mental health and more topics so many would stay away from.

Earlier today, E! News learned that Demi was hospitalized after suffering an apparent overdose. Soon after, NBC News reported that the singer is "stable and alert and breathing."

While fans wonder what could have led to such an unfortunate situation, those close to her are surprised things took such a negative turn so quickly. 

"She has had really good days where she is perfectly OK and on track and really bad days where her team and friends have been very concerned," a source shared with E! News.
