She's the Man

Oh, man, Amanda's the Man? In this high school comedy loosely based on Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, Amanda Bynes disguises herself as a guy to prove that girls can beat boys at soccer. Holy goalie! Her twin brother conveniently runs off to London for two weeks, so Bynes takes his place at a new prep school. Things get complicated when she crushes on hunky dorm-mate Channing Tatum, who's lusting for lovely Laura Ramsey, who in turn goes bonkers for Bynes.
The flick, saddled with strained, shticky direction by Andy Fickman, never takes full advantage of its premise, and Bynes bugs her eyes and mugs her way through the role. With a bad wig and a worse accent, she's unconvincing as a boy, much less a man (and isn't helped by male costars who look like Abercrombie models in their mid-20s). Tweens might enjoy it on DVD at slumber parties, but few others will be fans of this Man.
