Robin Thicke is breaking his silence in the wake of his father's tragic passing Tuesday night.

Growing Pains star Alan Thicke died of a heart attack at age 69, and while his death was a complete shock to friends and family, his son has offered a message to those around the world who loved him.

The Los Angeles Times spoke with Robin Thicke Tuesday night, who referred to his father as "the greatest man I ever met" and "always a gentleman." Confirming that Alan died of a heart attack, the "Blurred Lines" singer, 39, added, "The good thing was that he was beloved and he had closure. I saw him a few days ago and told him how much I loved and respected him."

A source tells E! News that Robin is understandably "devastated" and "is surrounded by loved ones."

Later that night, Robin took to Instagram to reflect on Alan's death. "My father passed away today. He was the best man I ever knew. The best friend I ever had," he wrote. "Let's all rejoice and celebrate the joy he brought to every room he was in. We love you Alan Thicke. Thank you for your love. Love, your grateful son."

Carter Thicke took to Twitter late Tuesday evening to write the following note about the untimely loss of his father:

"Today I lost my best friend and my idol, and the world lost one of it's finest. You are a legend and I love you Pops. Until next time."

Alan became a household name, and everyone's favorite television father when he starred as the role of Dr. Jason Seaver in the hit series Growing Pains from September 1985 to April 1992.

He also made memorable appearances on The Bold and the Beautiful, How I Met Your Mother, and most recently, Fuller House.

Alan was married to Tanya Callau at the time of his death, and was previously married two other times.

He is survived by Tanya and his three children, Robin, Carter and Brennan Thicke.

Our thoughts are with the entire Thicke family during this difficult time.
