Facebook Is Saying A Lot of People Are Dead: Including Mark Zuckerberg

Creepiest glitch ever?

Good news! A spokesperson for Facebook tells E! that "For a brief period today, a message meant for memorialized profiles was mistakenly posted to other accounts. This was a terrible error that we have now fixed. We are very sorry that this happened and we worked as quickly as possible to fix it."

Eek! It looks like there might be a Facebook glitch. Unfortunately, many living people are being marked as dead. If you've noticed a banner at the top of your friends and fam's pages, or even your own, you might be seriously confused. First things first, don't freak. It looks like the mess up has reached a lot of people (who are still very alive and well), including Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. The text above his profile reads, "We hope people who love Mark will find comfort in the things others share to remember and celebrate his life."

Pretty weird, but again, no need to worry. While we don't know why people are suddenly being memorialized, it does look like the issue is settling down a bit. The banner on Mark's page is gone, and, it appears many affected are no longer experiencing the eerie glitch.

The banner also featured a link to learn more about the memorializing process and Facebook's Legacy Contact feature. Not exactly the happiest thing you'll see all day.

Tons of people are taking to Facebook and Twitter to express their feelings about, well, not actually being dead. Not everyone was affected, including one Twitter user who wrote, "Experiencing some major fomo bc im not dead on Facebook."

Pretty interesting thing to feel FOMO over but to each his own! Actually, a handful of unaffected people oddly felt the same way. "Facebook doesn't say i'm dead and i feel v much left out of all the fun you dead people are having," Tweeted another.

Of course, the majority of people were either totally spooked, or laughed it off. Tweets ranged from "This just popped up on my facebook page and now I'm freaking. Am I dead? Hello?" And "Someone told Facebook I was dead, so my account has been memorialized. Got that going for me." Awkward.

Again, it looks like the issue is clearing up as of right now, so it's safe to relax and get back to that cat video your (very much alive) aunt posted to your page.
