The Simpsons Renewed for Season 29 and Season 30, Breaks Records and Makes TV History in the Process

Fox's animated comedy will produce 669 episodes with this renewal

Nothing to say D'oh about here: The Simpsons has been renewed for an unprecedented 29th and 30th season by Fox, making it the longest-running animated series and the largest number of episodes for any scripted TV show ever. ¡Ay, caramba! Gunsmoke previously held the record for most scripted TV episodes with 635. The Simpsons will have 669.

"Take that Gunsmoke! You lost a race you didn't even know you were running!," Homer Simpson, yes the fictional character, said in a statement from Fox.

So far this season, The Simpsons has been averaging 7.2 million viewers across platforms. James L. Brooks, Matt Groening and Al Jean serve as executive producers.

In the Sunday, Nov. 6 episode, Homer get ends up coaching the kids' lacrosse team with Milhouse's desperate dad. But Milhouse's dad, Kirk, is a little too clingy for Homer's tastes.

The Simpsons airs Sundays, 8 p.m. on Fox.
