Thursday morning an early version of Kanye West's "Famous" leaked, revealing lyrics that were different from the version that was ultimately released. In the original version, Kanye mentions both Swift and Amber Rose.
"I feel like Taylor Swift still owe me sex / I made that bitch famous," West rapped on the original demo. Later in the song Kanye raps some of the same lyrics but switches names. "I feel like Amber Rose still owe me sex / Why? I made that bitch famous / Not really, but somewhat famous," he rapped.
When the final version of the song hit the airwaves in February, the lyrics were altered. "For all my Southside n----s who know me best / I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why, I made that bitch famous," he rapped.
After reports surfaced that Kanye called Taylor to seek approval for the lyrics, a rep for T.Swift swiftly debunked them. "Kanye did not call for approval, but to ask Taylor to release his single 'Famous' on her Twitter account. She declined and cautioned him about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message," her rep told E! News, adding, "Taylor was never made aware of the actual lyric, 'I made that bitch famous.'"
But West's wife, Kim Kardashian West, would go on to insist that Kanye did, in fact, call her, and eventually released footage of said phone call on her Snapchat.
E! News has now learned that when Kim posted the three minutes of footage in July she never produced video of the original line about Taylor owing him sex or that he was calling her "that bitch." We've also learned that the footage was edited.
After Kim released the footage, she told Billboard that she did it because she wanted to defend Kanye. "I just wanted to protect my husband. I saw him getting a lot of s--t," she told the magazine.
"It wasn't even about a look or anything, or to have this feud—it was like, 'OK, here's the truth.' Done. Let's all move on. I feel like I don't want to talk about her anymore."
