FacebookSheryl Sandberg is choosing to celebrate her late husband's life once again.
On what would have been Dave Goldberg's 49th birthday, his wife decided to mark the occasion with a heartfelt tribute on social media.
"As my children and I do every day, we miss him and mourn that he was taken from us so suddenly and so soon. We miss his smile, his generosity, his wisdom, and his love," she wrote to her two million followers. "Today is also Erev Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, when we say prayers celebrating the ‘birthday of the world.' We focus on new beginnings, giving to others, and seeking forgiveness."
The Facebook COO and Lean In author continued, "We recommit to being better and working harder to move the world toward what it should be: more just, more equal, more compassionate, more kind."
In a matter of hours, the post received hundreds of shares and thousands more likes. But perhaps what's most important to Sheryl is that it gave followers the chance to know a man she deeply loved and still loves today.
"For all of us who knew and loved Dave, this is the perfect spirit to honor his memory. Dave set an example we all still strive to live up to," Sheryl explained. "Dave, the world is a better place for the years you lived—and we will always celebrate the day of your birth. I love you, Dave."
Back in May of 2015, Dave's brother Robert Goldberg announced that the CEO of SurveyMonkey had passed away suddenly.
A source close to the family would later confirm to NBC News that Dave was on vacation with family and friends when he collapsed while exercising.
"Dave's genius, courage and leadership were overshadowed only by his compassion, friendship and heart," Dave's company shared at the time of his passing. "His greatest love was for his family."
