Luke Cage

Netflix

How do you shock the unshockable audience? If you're Marvel's Luke Cage you pull the rug right out from viewers by killing key characters and leaving the fate of another up in the air. Yeah, this is your spoiler warning.

In Marvel's Luke Cage episode seven, "Manifest," things took a turn for the fine (and not so fine) people of Harlem. Where to start? How about Alfre Woodard's Mariah Dillard killing her cousin Cornell "Cottonmouth" Stokes (House of Cards' Mahershala Ali)? Yep, the big bad villain of Luke Cage was dispatched midway through the first season. And then—yes, there's an and then—Shades (Theo Rossi) helped Mariah cover it all up and pin it on Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and the two aligned themselves. The councilwoman is officially over to the dark side.

Meanwhile, Luke Cage was out with Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson) and got shot in the gut with that special bullet Shades and Cottonmouth were eyeballing. Yes, the indestructible skin was penetrated.

Talk about twists.

"We knew what we were going to do and when everybody read what we were going to do, they were on board," showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker told E! News at the premiere of Luke Cage. "That's really the incredible thing about this cast is that we wrote for this cast. It was really the perfect collaboration for our writers and the cast from the standpoint of believing so much in these actors that we really tried to tailor what we were writing for them. They paid us back by just elevating the material to a point where it's just so incredible."

Hodari said fans should do a little bit of binging and savoring when it comes to his Netflix series.

"It really depends on your stamina. I think the way to do it: Watch four, give a little bit of rest, watch four more, little bit of rest, watch the last four and then if you can stand it, watch episode 13."

So, rest up and binge away. All of Marvel's Luke Cage is now streaming on Netflix.
