While the drama between Angelina Jolie and her estranged husband Brad Pitt swirls regarding their ongoing divorce, one report from TMZ has surfaced describing the longtime couple's prenuptial agreement as "ironclad."
Though the effects of such an agreement remain to be seen, the stars were only legally married for two years, which may prove to be less complicated when dividing up the assets.
While a prenup is commonplace for most modern celebrity couples, even with a contract already signed, many can end up coughing up a pretty penny. Take Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise, one of Hollywood's most prominent pairs before their divorce in 2012 after six years of marriage. Until their only daughter Suri Cruise turns 18 years old, the Top Gun star reportedly agreed to pay $400,000 a year in child support.
Some prenups include conditional clauses, like Elizabeth Taylor's agreement with her seventh and final husband, construction worker Larry Fortensky. According to Time, their five-year marriage reportedly qualified him for a cool $1 million, which Taylor obliged.
When Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren's marriage came to a head following his infidelity, their previously signed prenuptial agreement was allegedly renegotiated. Though the terms of the settlement were ultimately kept private, Nordegren reportedly walked away with $100 million, as Forbes reported.
After Steven Spielberg and his first wife Amy Irving called it quits, their prenup signed on a napkin was ditched after Irving argued she did not have legal representation at the time, according to Forbes. Less than four years of marriage later, she cashed in on $100 million, half of what Spielberg was then worth.
Though other prenups are effective in protecting each celebrities' assets from being unwillingly handed over, they still can result in extenuating charges—albeit minor in the celebrity world.
For example, while Kaley Cuoco's agreement with her former husband Ryan Sweeting safeguarded her multi-million earnings from The Big Bang Theory, she still had to cough up $55,000 in legal fees and an additional $165,000 in temporary spousal support. TMZ also reported that Cuoco footed the $195,000 bill for Sweeting's two personal trainers.
While it's all virtually chump change for a multi-millionaire star like Cuoco, they are extenuating costs nonetheless.
Bethenny Frankel bore the burden of a $12,000-a-month spousal support payment to ex Jason Hoppy until March when an appeals court upheld their prenuptial agreement, in which they waived all claims to spousal support.
Only time will tell if Brad and Angelina end up on this list.
