"We're not splitting up," Brad Pitt told Parade magazine in 2011 of his relationship with Angelina Jolie.

Fast forward five years, and these two are getting divorced, which would be the second divorce for Pitt and the third for Jolie. "I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the wellbeing of our kids," Pitt said in a statement to People. "I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time."

Geyer Kosinski, Jolie's longtime manager told E! News in an exclusive statement, "Angelina will always do what's in the best interest of taking care of her family. She appreciates everyone's understanding of their need for privacy at this time."

Although these are the only two statements coming from the pair at this time, both Pitt, who was previously married to Jennifer Aniston, and Jolie, who was formerly married to Billy Bob Thornton and Jonny Lee Miller, have been open in the past about their prior divorces.

About six years after Aniston and Pitt split, he told Parade magazine that he "wasn't living an interesting life."

"I think that my marriage had something to do with it," Pitt added. "Trying to pretend the marriage was something that it wasn't." He also noted that he was a more "satisfied man" after getting together with Jolie.

Jolie, however, has taken a different angle while talking about her exes. In an interview with BuzzFeed, Jolie opened up about the movie that introduced her to Miller.

"[Hackers] is where I met Jonny, who is still a great friend. So I think of him when I think of that," she said. "Although, I'm sure the movie looks so ancient now, but we had a lot of fun making that."

Though this isn't a direct quote from Jolie per se, Thornton's revelation that he and Jolie keep in touch speaks volumes about how she has handled her divorces. "She's amazing, amazing. She's got so much energy and so much goodness in her, and we check in on each other all the time," Thornton revealed to YourTango.com. "She makes sure I'm doing OK. I make sure she's doing OK."

When it came time to address her former marriage, however, Jolie had nothing but kind words for Thornton. "I still love him dearly and think the world of him and I'm proud to have been his wife for a time," she told Entertainment Weekly. "I don't believe in regrets. It's a dangerous habit to get into—it makes you pause in your life if you start thinking back and questioning yourself."
