And the first Emmy award of the night goes to...Louie Anderson!
Anderson is taking home the award for best supporting actor in a comedy series for his role in FX's Baskets as the mother of Zach Galifianakis. Naturally, he started out with a literal shoutout to his own mother.
"Mom, we did it!" Anderson shouted after taking the stage to accept his award from Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross. "I have not always been a very good man but I play one hell of a woman. This is for my mom, Orazella Anderson, who I stole every nuance, shameful look, cruel look, loving look, passive-aggressive line, I really thank her."
Anderson went on to thank his family—including his 10 brothers and sisters—and his father, before thanking the guys who gave him the job, Louis C.K. and Zach Galifianakis.
Anderson faced some seriously tough competition in his category, including Veep's Tony Hale and Matt Walsh, Modern Family's Ty Burrell, Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Andre Braugher, Key and Peele's Keegan-Michael Key, and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt's Tituss Burgess.
This was Anderson's first Emmy win and nomination. Stay updated on all the winners with our full list!
