And the 2016 Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Emmy Award winner is…Kate McKinnon!
In a surprise win—even to McKinnon herself! ("I'm shaking, guys," she confessed as she walked up to the mic)—the Saturday Night Live star beat out fellow nominees Niecy Nash (Getting On), Allison Janney (Mom), Judith Light (Transparent), Gaby Hoffmann (Transparent) and Anna Chlumsky (Veep) for the coveted trophy.
Naturally, in her first-ever Emmys acceptance speech she had to thank two of the women who have become her trademark impressions on the long-running late-night show: Hillary Clinton and Ellen DeGeneres.
But it wasn't all jokes—McKinnon, who was practically in tears (I'm really crying! I'm not making it up," she cracked), also managed to thank her family for all their support. "Thank you to my beautiful and hilarious mother and sister and my father, who's not with us anymore. He made me start watching SNL when I was 12."
