Paris Jackson is not holding anything back.
The oldest child of the late Michael Jackson tearfully took to social media to air her uncensored feelings about how brutal the Internet can be. "I don't understand how there can be so much hatred in the world right now," she began in a self-shot video on Instagram stories, later uploaded online to a fan account. "I've tried sticking up for myself. I've tried the whole blocking the haters thing, not reading the comments. I've tried a lot of things."
While Jackson remained vague about what particularly sparked the emotional message, the 18-year-old continued by questioning her interactions with her 1.25 million Twitter followers and nearly 800,000 Instagram fans.
"I don't get why I'm such an easy target. I try to be nice to everybody that I meet. I give everyone a chance. I'm usually a trusting person. I try to be open with you guys about what I do on a daily basis. I share my life with you. I don't hide a lot. I'm very public," she said into the camera. "I'm sorry if there's something that Im doing that you guys don't like. Maybe I'm too public. I don't know."
Yet, Paris has not always been so easily accessible. While her adolescence was famously private, she swore off social media four years ago after a suicide attempt.
"When I was 14, I got so much hatred that, um, I tried to kill myself and then I took like a two year break from social media," she recalled. "Nothing changed."
Jackson isn't the only subject of extreme ridicule on the Internet. "I know I'm not the only one. F--king Justin Bieber went to a downward spiral because everybody that he dates gets so much hate," she said. "I have known his girlfriend Sofia [Richie] since I was 12 or 13. She's one of the sweetest girls in the world and people are telling her to kill herself." The daughter of Lionel Richie came under such scrutiny from Bieber's fans that he threatened to make his Instagram account private and then deleted it all together.
Paris concluded with a final plea. "We're human beings, man. We got hearts and brains and feelings and when you say damaging things to people…it f--ks them up. It really f--ks people up when you do that and I don't know if that's what you want, but its exhausting. Really and truly—it's exhausting," she said.
"Sorry for the rant. Just some stuff I've been holding in for a long time—years."
Days later, Jackson took to Instagram again to offer some final comments. "Looks like i'm the villain now. didn't know defending myself was a crime. my dearest apologies. guess my careers over lolol."
