Instead of working on an A-list movie or attending a star-studded event this weekend, Katie Holmes decided to focus on family time while celebrating her mom's birthday.
What came next was a surprise party filled with more than a few special moments caught on film.

The actress later shared a few moments of her child moving on the dance floor and surprising her grandma behind a curtain. Safe to say they definitely succeeded.
While the mother-daughter duo tries to keep a low-profile both on and off social media, E! News learned that the pair recently experienced the magic of Broadway by attending Finding Neverland.
After the musical ended, Suri and company posed for pictures during a backstage meet-and-greet with cast members Laura Michelle Kelly, Paul Slade Smith, Amy Yakima and Tony Yazbeck.

After the show, the pair continued their weekend in the Big Apple by visiting Serendipity and the Museum of Modern Art. "New York has been very good to both of us," Katie told People in 2014 of her post-Tom Cruise life with Suri. "I love the theater, the galleries in my neighborhood. Stuff [like] that is so much of what makes me love this city."
And if there was any doubt, we're here to assure you that family time is one of the best times for Katie. "Motherhood is the greatest gift," she shared with Glamour in 2014. "When I became a mother, my life completely changed."
