Kate Middleton Is a Ready-to-Wear Fashionista: More Stars Who Sport Clothes Straight Off the Rack

The Duchess of Cambridge is in good celebrity company when it comes to shopping retail.

Kate Middleton is known for her thrifty fashion ways, particularly when it comes to recycling outfits during public appearances or welcoming the sale racks when it comes time for buying something new. Royal title or not, Middleton mixes designer and retail labels for a look that is uniquely her own. Her most recent example of thrifty dressing was Friday in Cornwall, where she was photographed in a $25 pair of printed pants from none other than the Gap.

She's not alone in this strategy, either. While many celebrities head off to a red carpet donning a custom couture piece, others opt to do their own shopping and pick from the already made.

On that list of familiar names are stars like Hayden Panettiere, Bryce Dallas Howard, Melissa McCarthy, Taylor Swift and Beyoncé, whom have all sported looks straight out of a department store, rather than right off of a runway.

She built a billion-dollar company, but that doesn't mean Jessica Alba doesn't still like a good deal on her clothes. While at the H&M fashion show at Paris Fashion Week in 2014, the actress and businesswoman rocked a budget-conscious frock from the company's very line.

Beyoncé isn't "sorry" about this fashion choice—and neither is her wallet. The Grammy-winning songstress sported a fierce and fun sequin little black dress by Topshop to the brand's NYC flagship store opening in 2014.

The Golden Globe Awards is often a high-pressure carpet to walk in the fashion world, but actress Bryce Dallas Howard took matters into her own hands this year when she stepped into Neiman Marcus the week of the ceremony.

"I just picked it up at Neiman's this week," Bryce told Giuliana Rancic about her standout blue gown by Jenny Packham. "I like having lots of options for a size six as opposed to maybe one option, so I always go to department stores!"

Having publicly called out the lack of designer options in larger sizes, funny lady and fashion designer Melissa McCarthy has improvised over the years by buying from digital fashion retailers like Eloquii—the company behind this eye-catching abstract print dress from a 2014 red carpet appearance.

If there's one lesson Taylor Swift can teach us, it's "shake off" those crazy price tags. The actress often steps out in fast-fashion brands like Forever 21 and H&M, where she bought this $14.95 polka-dotted fit-and-flare dress.

Hayden Panettiere sparked major attention for her Golden Globes gown two years ago—not for how beautiful she looked, but because she took fashion matters into her own hands.

"It's the first time I've ever worn him, because I've been begging," Panettiere told E!'s Giuliana Rancic on the award show's red carpet. "I feel sexy in it, I feel comfortable in it, and I'm in Tom Ford. I would wear a plastic bag if it was designed by him."

While it was later revealed that Ford had not "officially" dressed the actress, but that she had purchased the gown on her own, the designer was ultimately a fan of how Panettiere looked in his creation.

"You looked beautiful last night," he wrote in a letter to the star with a bouquet of flowers. "Thank you for your kind words."
