Rob Kardashian is back in the spotlight to stay—thanks to his future wife.
From the moment Blac Chyna commemorated "the beginning" of her unexpected relationship with the Kardashian sibling, the couple has amassed whirlwind national attention and speculation. More than seven months since the initial social media announcement, there's been an engagement and pregnancy for the pair as they gear up for the first season of their new reality show.
"Chyna definitely motivates me," he told People. "Being with her got me over the insecurity of being out in public." Kardashian famously retreated from his famous family's spotlight for most of 2015, but reemerged as his surprise romance with Chyna blossomed in the new year.
"She got me through my darkest times," Rob told the magazine of the makeup mogul, who has stuck by his side as he's worked to lose weight and manage his diabetes diagnosis. "I wasn't happy in my own skin. I missed out on so many things."
However, Chyna wants to set one record straight. "I never wanted to change him," she told the magazine. While the public may not have predicted their relationship today, Rob says their union has been a long time in the making.
"I've been friends with Chyna for a long time," he said. "She was someone I reached out to for advice. She would cook for me and we'd just talk." Despite their initial friendship, Kardashian had hearts in his eyes from the beginning. "From the moment we met, I knew I wanted to be more than friends."
With a wedding looming, a baby on the way and a diet in progress, Rob has plenty to look forward to. "There were definitely dark days for me, and I'm still not fully happy looking at myself in the mirror," he told the magazine. "But, I'm working towards that. And I'm happy."
