Welcome to Numbers You Didn't Know You Needed, a new series in which E! News channels its inner mathlete. This is where we play the numbers game, and get a little nerdy to bring you a lot of revelations. Have you ever noticed that Leonardo DiCaprio is always on a Citi Bike? Or that Lindsay Lohan is constantly putting her finger in her mouth? Now you will. You may not be staying up nights wondering just how many times Lauren Conrad wore a headband on The Hills, but after our investigation it'll be all you can think about. So come along on this mathematical journey, won't you? Life will never be the same.

Now we take on one Zac Efron.

He's a gorgeous specimen, and it's easy to become distracted when one is confronted with his beauty. Those cheekbones! That jawline! Those baby blues! Even the sharpest brains to mush. Except ours.

Yes, we have become fine-tuned to the patterns of the Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates actor's photos, and something has been bothering us. Something has been giving us the itch. There's something that's just not right. The guy loves to give the thumbs-up. In fact, he's single-handedly keeping nerdy dad-gestures in play. Whenever Zac is in a jolly mood, he suddenly feels compelled to convey that fact by throwin' up the thumbs.

On vacation? Give it some thumbs. Wearing a cool shirt? Give it some thumbs. Just met your idol? Give it some thumbs. At a total loss for what to do in this photo? Thumbs, your honor.

As such, it was time to collect these instances. Since we're E! News and not, like the census or the CIA, we had to limit these poses to the time he's been a big fancy movie star—but, surely, if one were to crack open a family album, they would find early evidence of this habit. But for now, the final count is: 14 big ol' thumbs for public perusing. These poses span years, meaning he isn't worried at all about it going out of style.

Most recently he gave a rare double thumbs before an appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers, pictured above. There must be something about Mr. Meyers, because he did the same when he ran into the host during a trip to Peru.

Always a pleasure. Until our next adventure, my friend. #WAYF #WAYFtour

He also threw one up at the Spike TV Guys Choice Awards while seemingly borrowing from the costume archives of Miami Vice.

He gave the thumbs up at a family Christmas a few years ago while holding his childhood dog, causing the world to wonder whether the hand gesture was directed towards the holiday celebration, the pup, or just life in general.

Zac gave thumbs at an Indianapolis Colts game while a) inexplicably cheering for a team that he has nothing to do with and b) wearing a very questionable Santa hat.

He gave father-son thumbs up while hiking to Machu Picchu with his dad, which sheds a little bit of light on where this comes from.

He gave the thumbs up while watch watching his own movie with his costars.

He used his thumb to show his elation at meeting the chef of Copenhagen's famed restaurant Noma.

He used his thumb to show his elation at being on the Warner Brothers lot with his (not-so-famed) We Are Your Friends director.

And, perhaps most impressively, he showed the world that he even runs with the thumbs-up. It's in his involuntary genes, bro. Keep being you, Zac.
