Now that he's made his way to the top as one of the greatest rappers in the industry, Drake's career beginnings seem so far gone (if we're playing off that career-igniting 2009 mixtape).

But in honor of the Video Music Awards coming up next week, MTV has jogged our memories back to the rapper's start...yes, all the way back to his days playing wheelchair Jimmy on DeGrassi!

The network gave E! News an exclusive sneak peek of their 30-minute special "MTV Firsts," which will take us on a walk down memory lane with some of the biggest nominees for this year's show when it airs on Saturday.

The clip shows the rapper coming onto MTV for the very first time with his co-stars on DeGrassi (he even spit some game) to his first time appearing at the MTV VMAs (when he performed "Fancy" with Mary J. Blige and Swizz Beats) to his meme-making dance moves in "Hotline Bling."

Now, Champagne Papi has been nominated for Video of the Year—the most prestigious award of the night—at the 2016 VMAs, and we're secretly hoping to see him take the stage again alongside Video Vanguard recipient (and rumored girlfriend) Rihanna!

Check out "MTV Firsts" on Saturday at 4:50 p.m., and make sure to catch Drake and all your other favorite artists hit the red carpet for MTV's big night on Sunday, Aug. 28 at 9 p.m. when the VMAs go live from Madison Square Garden in New York City.
