When it comes to rejection, Nick Jonas is taking the high road.
After he was completely shut out of the 2016 MTV VMA nomination pool, the annual award show announced that he will still be attending the ceremony—just not as a potential award recipient. Instead, the 23-year-old is slated to take the streets of New York City to perform his track "Bacon" alongside Ty Dolla $ign during this year's broadcast.
It's arguably a gracious move by the former nominee, particularly since he had initially expressed some sadness about the snub. "Disappointed with the fact Close got no love for the #VMAs2016" he tweeted shortly after the nominees were revealed in late July.
The remark was one of the first times the public had ever heard any semblance of discontent from the former child star. Having risen to fame as a 7-year-old Broadway performer and subsequent Disney boy bander, his image has remained practically squeaky clean for more than a decade. The VMA nominations were no different.
After the initial tweet, he followed up in the expected Jonas fashion—with grace and a cherry on top.
"Actually after thinking about it more there are so many amazing things happening in my life and career. 9 out of 10 boxes are checked...Won't let this one thing get to me. I'm feeling so inspired and grateful these days. Gonna focus more on caring less about the small stuff," he said. "Everything is awesome."
It wasn't the first time he let the Hollywood punches roll off his back. In fact, he's proven time and time again that when it comes to fame, he's the ultimate good sport.
When faced with touchy personal questions—like going into detail about having a boner on a red carpet, his role in the breakup of the Jonas Brothers or whether or not he likes to get spanked in the bedroom—he doesn't dodge them like a professional publicist. Instead, he answers—often with some level of enthusiasm. "Yeah, absolutely," he told Andy Cohen about the last query about his sex life. "I've got a firm ass."
Even during a shared segment on Carpool Karaoke with Demi Lovato, he sat in the car as she and James Corden grilled him about his romantic history with Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez when he could have just been jamming out to his top hits.
Needless to say, whether he's being teased or the target of public prying, Jonas is one to always keep his cool—it seems all the way to the VMA stage.
