If your weekend involves seeing Pete's Dragon, you're living your best life. The remake of Disney's 1977 classic kids movie is out in theaters today, and to celebrate, we're talking Disney dragons. Your favorite childhood movies and cartoons have been littered with dragons for as far back as we can remember. Some beasts are small and gentle like Mushu in Mulan, but most are giant, lizard-like devils out for innocent Disney blood. We ranked Disney's live-action and animated dragons for your reading pleasure. Get your nostalgia pants on because we're going way back with some of these.

We're going to go ahead and put Pete's dragon, also known as Elliot, on the list as our number one best dragon. Not only does he have two movies dedicated to his awesomeness, Elliot is a gentle giant. He's able to act as Pete's pal and protector but is also capable of causing a stir. Best of both dragon worlds, in our opinion. If you can't make Pete's on the big screen today, reliving your childhood with these dragon flicks is the next best option. Seriously, this list is fire. Sorry, we had to.

2. Maleficent in Sleeping Beauty. Sure Maleficent is a scary, jealous psycho, but the fact that she can shapeshift from a strikingly evil lady into an equally horrifying dragon is sheer talent. We're putting her at number two because when you look up the word 'badass' in the dictionary, her spirit animal shows up.

3. Dragon in Shrek. We know, we know: Shrek isn't a Disney movie. But we just totally appreciate Dragon simply because she's fun and flirty. She goes after what she wants (Donkey), and we see her big heart in the end. Just like Mushu and Elliot, she's a protector and cares about her squad.

4. The Jabberwock in Alice in Wonderland. Also known as The Jabberwocky, the beast is beyond hideous (and v. mean, TBH). Technically the beast was deleted from the original Disney version of the film, but he does appear in the '80s and modern day versions. He's at number three strictly because he's a classic, live-action evil dragon.

5. Mushu in Mulan. Yes, we know he's dopey and small, but he's got a sassy attitude to make up for it. Even though his mouth is bigger than his body, he's got a heart of gold when it comes to looking after Mulan. Oh, and he's named after food which is an immediate plus.

6. Narissa in EnchantedNarissa, played by Susan Sarandon, doesn't have the same glamorous bad girl factor as Maleficent. While we admire her no BS attitude and stunning eye shadow game, old Mal still takes the evil cake.

7. Madam Mim in The Sword in the StoneUgh. Mim is the ugly, derpier version of Mushu, minus the heart of gold. Sure she too can transform into a dragon, but the final product is so not chic. If you think she looks derpy as a human, wait until you see her in fire-breathing form.

8. The Gwythaints from The Black Cauldron. These hideous winged weirdos serve the Horned King. In other words, they're boring, evil cliches that totally deserve last place on our list. Woof.
