Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas was only 16 years old when she made history at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Now 20, she has won gold in the Olympics, at the World Championships, Pacific Rim Championships and American Cup competitions and she is hoping to add another medal to her collection today in the uneven bars final in Rio.

Although she just barely missed qualifying for the all-around finals, she scored a whopping, team-best 15.766 on the uneven bars during the team final, so we're hoping the living legend kicks an equally serious amount of butt in the individual event.

We know you can't wait for her to compete, so to tide you over in the meantime here are eight fun facts to help you get to know the Team USA veteran star:

1. She Is A Girl of Firsts

Gabby was the first African-American woman in Olympic history to win a gold medal as the individual all-around champion. And that's not all! She was also the first American gymnast to win a gold medal in both the individual all-around and team competitions during the same Olympic game. And she did it all at only 16.

2. She Sacrificed to Train for the Olympics

Gabby left her family behind in Virginia Beach, Va., and moved to Des Moines, Iowa, when she was 14 to train full-time.

She chose to work with Liang Chow, the coach who helped gymnast Shawn Johnson win gold at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

3. She Trains For How Long?

Vanity Fair calculated that between the ages of 6 and 16, Gabby spent around 18,000 hours training to be an all-around champion.

That's more than two solid years of gym-time. Get out your calculators, because that was four years ago.

4. She Slayed at the 2012 Olympic Games in London

She was the only female gymnast to qualify for individual all-around, bars and beam finals. And to top it off, she amassed a higher score than anyone else in all four events for the team finals.

But her skills really can't be put into words. Watch her stunning performance here.

5. They Made a Barbie Versionght: 400;">That's right, Barbie designed a doll in Gabby Douglas' likeness, complete with a tracksuit and gymnastics leotard as part of their "you can be anything campaign."

When she scored the honor, Gabby told People, "I'm so excited. My older sister and I used to play with Barbies and create these dramatic fantasy stories, so it's such a huge honor."

6. She Started Early

Gabby's mother signed her up for her first gymnastics class when she was only 6 and she's been flying through the air with the greatest of ease ever since.

7. Her Nickname Is "The Flying Squirrel"

Due to Gabby's high-flying flips on the uneven bars (her specialty), she was nicknamed "The Flying Squirrel" by national team coordinator Martha Karolyi.

"I like to become the Flying Squirrel," Douglas told USA Today. "I like squirrels. They're so adventurous."

8) She Has Her Own Leotard Line

Gabby partnered with GK Elite Sportswear to produce a special line of back-to-school leotards, which she modeled herself on the brand's website.
