Will Smith's been promoting his new film Suicide Squad for weeks, but on last night's episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the star took it back to his old-school days.

Just as Colbert announced a commercial break, the show's house band—Jon Batiste and Stay Human—began playing Smith's classic "Summertime," which the Fresh Prince released with DJ Jazzy Jeff in 1991.

Upon hearing the unmistakable intro, Smith switched into rapper mode, abandoning Colbert's desk and grabbing a mic before launching right into the song's first verse. The crowd instantly jumped to its feet and started clapping along to the impromptu performance.

Smith and Batiste bro'd out with a hug before Smith returned to his seat next to Colbert (and the show actually broke for commercials.)

Smith has definitely been upping the late night talk show game recently: In late July, he made three unforgettable entrances onto the set of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, including riding onstage on top of a unicorn. Who even knows what will be in store when he appears on Conan Wednesday night?

Suicide Squad is in theaters Aug. 5.
