Jimmy Fallon Is Your New 2017 Golden Globes Host

Fallon takes over for Ricky Gervais who hosted in 2016

Jimmy Fallon is your new Golden Globes host. NBC announced The Tonight Show host will take the reins of the 74th Annual Golden Globe Awards, airing live on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017 at 8 p.m.

"I'm so excited to be hosting The Golden Globes in January," Fallon tweeted. "And I'm really looking forward to spending time with the Hollywood Foreign Press before Donald Trump has them all deported."

Fallon previously hosted the 2010 Emmy Awards for NBC.

"We're thrilled to announce Jimmy as host of The 74th Annual Golden Globes," NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt said in a statement. "This is the most spontaneous and uninhibited award show on television, and Jimmy's playful, disarming comedic brilliance makes him the ideal host to enhance and elevate the sense of fun and irreverence that's made the Golden Globes one of the premier events of the entire broadcast year."

Ricky Gervais hosted the ceremony in 2016 and from 2010-2012. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted from 2013-2015.

"Jimmy Fallon is an exceptionally talented and dynamic entertainer and we couldn't be more excited that he'll be hosting the 2017 Golden Globes," Lorenzo Soria, president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, said in a statement. "His charm, wit and incredible spontaneity will play exceedingly well both to everyone at the show as well as the millions watching at home from around the world."

The 2016 ceremony had a 5.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 18.5 million viewers in the live plus same day ratings.

Fallon is up for two Emmys this year, including Outstanding Variety Series Talk.

The 74th Annual Golden Globe Awards airs live on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017 at 8 p.m. on NBC.
