The cast and crew of Fifty Shades Darker are "safe and sound."

The sequel to 2015's Fifty Shades of Grey was filming outside of Nice, France, Thursday, where a truck drove through a crowd celebrating Bastille Day, killing as many as 84 people and injuring many more. The production was staged at a location about 40 minutes outside of the city and wrapped before the attack took place.

"Back safe in my hotel room. Thanks for everyone's concern and messages," producer Dana Brunetti tweeted. "As far as I know everyone from our cast and crew is safe. Thanks for everyone's concern." He later shared an update on behalf of his crew via Facebook, writing, "Production has confirmed that everyone working on location in the south of France is okay. Everyone has been accounted for and is safe and sound."

Brunetti added, "Thanks for everyone's messages and concerns. Another sad day for France and the world."

The cast and crew, which includes Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, have not been staying in Nice itself, sources familiar with the production told The Hollywood Reporter. After the attack, another producer, Michael De Luca, tweeted, "We stand with Nice. Vive Le France."

Author and screenwriter E.L. James, who has been touring France with Brunetti and De Luca, also tweeted about the Bastille Day attack. "Just heard about the horrendous events in Nice. Appalling," she wrote Thursday. "Thoughts are with the families of the dead and injured."

Following the tragedy, French President François Hollande extended a nationwide state of emergency three months. In a statement, United States President Barack Obama offered his nation's support and sympathy. "On behalf of the American people, I condemn in the strongest terms what appears to be a horrific terrorist attack in Nice, France, which killed and wounded dozens of innocent civilians. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and other loved ones of those killed, and we wish a full recovery for the many wounded," he said Thursday. "I have directed my team to be in touch with French officials, and we have offered any assistance that they may need to investigate this attack and bring those responsible to justice. We stand in solidarity and partnership with France, our oldest ally, as they respond to and recover from this attack. On this Bastille Day, we are reminded of the extraordinary resilience and democratic values that have made France an inspiration to the entire world, and we know that the character of the French Republic will endure long after this devastating and tragic loss of life."
