Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling are in love again in their forthcoming movie La La Land.

The popular onscreen couple, who previously worked together on Crazy, Stupid, Love and Gangster Squad, are together once again in the romantic musical, which seems to be much darker than their romantic comedy. In the movie's first trailer, Gosling plays a jazz musician named Sebastian while Stone has the role of his girlfriend, an aspiring actress named Mia. Both are struggling to cope with the pressures of trying to make it big in Hollywood.

The trailer features no dialogue, instead using Gosling's original song "City of Stars" to play over the montage. Despite the fact that Gosling and Stone can't take their eyes off of each other, there's something heartbreaking about their relationship. The lyrics to Gosling's song only add to our doomsday prediction of this favorite couple.

"City of stars, are you shining just for me? City of stars, there's so much I can't see," Gosling sings. "Is this the start of something wonderful—or one more dream that I cannot make true."

Gosling and Stone continuously support each other throughout each of their various performances, auditions and rejections, but will they be able to make it through the inevitable pressures they're facing? We can't help but already be heartbroken for these two.

Unlike Crazy, Stupid, Love, the movie that made fans 'ship Gosling and Stone as a couple that needed to happen in real life, this dark trailer shows a different side of the fictional couple: one that struggles and (maybe) overcomes together. In some ways, perhaps it's a more real relationship than the one provided to fans in the rom-com starring Steve Carell. Though they had their ups and downs, they ultimately ended up together, giving fans the happy ending they all wanted.

Can the same be said for La La Land? We'll just have to wait and see. Based on this trailer, however, fans might not want to get their hopes up.

Entertainment Weekly unveiled the first trailer.
