Keri Russell

Keri Russell made two revelations on NBC's Today Friday.

The 40-year-old actress was promoting her new movie, Free State of Jones, when Matt Lauer took a moment to congratulate her on the recent arrival of Baby No. 2. "You just had a baby about a month and a half ago," he said. "Am I correct in reading, Ms. Russell, that you have not yet revealed the gender of the baby or the baby's name?"

Keri laughed and replied, "I mean, I guess not. I mean, where do you reveal that?"

"You could do it right now," Matt suggested.

"We had a boy," said Keri, who added that his name is Sam.

"That's great," Matt said. "How's he doing?"

"He's so good," the actress gushed. "He's big and fat and nice." As for Matthew Rhys, her partner and co-star on FX's hit series The Americans? He's doing "so well," said Keri, who is also mom to son River, 9, and daughter, Willa, 4, from a previous marriage.

Earlier in the interview, Keri discussed director Gary Ross' Free State of Jones. "It's based on a true, incredible story. It's just this epic, historic film," she said. "I think Matthew McConaughey is great in it." McConaughey plays a Mississippi farmer who leads an uprising against the Confederacy. "He's an epic character, and he's not just an altruistic, good guy. He has a lot of flaws and grit," Keri added. "And he's a rebel rouser, in a way, too...He stood up for incredible injustices in a time where it was almost impossible to do so. So, he's an incredible figure."

(E! and NBC are both members of the NBCUniversal family.)
