NBCSimon Cowell used the coveted Golden Buzzer on America's Got Talent and it wasn't just for any ordinary contestant. The judge and executive producer sent 16-year-old Calysta Bevier, a cancer survivor, through to the live rounds.
The singer said her dream was to win America's Got Talent and auditioned with tearful rendition of Rachel Platten's "Fight Song." After judge Howie Mandel complimented her Audrey Hepburn-y look, Bevier admitted her hair wasn't her choice.
"My hair wasn't really my choice. I'm a survivor of stage-three ovarian cancer. I kind of came here today to show people that no matter what you've gone through to keep chasing your dreams," she said.
Bevier received a standing ovation from the audience. Mandel thanked her for her heartfelt song choice and performance.
"It was amazing," Mel B. said. "It couldn't have gone any better for you." But the highest praise came from Cowell.
"I love everything about you," he said. "You know what? I just had this feeling when you walked out—I can't explain it. Just your spirit, the choice of song, your voice, I think you're really special. I've just got this really incredible feeling about you, I really do…I think everyone in this room felt it…I predict great things are going to happen for you. There's something about you."
Then he hit the Golden Buzzer and sent Bevier through the auditioning rounds to the live shows.
America's Got Talent airs Tuesdays, 8 p.m. on NBC.
