Christina Aguilera's New Song "Change" to Benefit Orlando Nightclub Shooting Victims and Families

The track was released less than a week after a gunman shot and killed 49 people inside the Pulse club in Orlando

Proceeds from Christina Aguilera's new single, "Change," will temporarily benefit those affected by the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, Florida, the deadliest terror attack in the United States since 9/11.

The 35-year-old pop singer and The Voice coach released the ballad and a lyric video Thursday, less than a week after a gunman shot and killed 49 people inside the gay club and injured 53 more in what also marked the nation's deadliest mass shooting.

Proceeds from iTunes and Apple Music downloads of "Change" in the United States will benefit the National Compassion Fund, which distributes donations to the attack victims and their families, until September 14.

"My prayers are with everyone affected by last night's senseless tragedy," Aguilera had tweeted Sunday, hours after the attack. "We can't tolerate hate. Don't lose hope, we can #change the future."

"Change" contains lyrics such as "Who you love or the color of your skin / (Or the place that you were born and grew up in) /  Shouldn't decide how you will be treated / /Cause we're all the same when everybody's breathing / Waiting for a change to set us free / Waiting for the day when you can be you and I can be me / Waiting for hope to come around / Waiting for the day when hate is lost and love is found / Waiting for a change, waiting for a change."

In a post published on her website Thursday, the singer said, "The horrific tragedy that occurred in Orlando continues to weigh heavily on my mind. "I am sending so much love and so many prayers to the victims and their families. Like so many, I want to help be part of the change this world needs to make it a beautiful inclusive place where humanity can love each other freely and passionately."

"We all have the choice to spread love, encourage individuality and make a difference to others," she added. "We are all in this together, as one, united in love."

"A huge thank you to @xtina for her support and dedication to help the victims of the #PulseNightclub tragedy," read a tweet posted on the group's Twitter page Friday.
