Gregg DeGuire/WireImageIf you ask Dory about the rumored same-sex couple in Finding Dory, well, she won't remember. But if you ask Ellen DeGeneres, she'll just be happy at the thought.
Viewers were quick to point out a scene in the animated film's trailer which shows two women caring over a baby in a stroller, with the question of whether or not the movie was depicting a lesbian couple, and while filmmakers have not addressed the speculation, this would be the first openly gay couple to appear in a Disney/Pixar film ever.
So when asked about the rumored same-sex pair during a recent press conference in Beverly Hills, the star, whose voice helps bring our favorite little blue fish to life on the big screen, couldn't confirm that we're seeing what we think we're seeing, but she was happy about it, nonetheless.
"I personally think it's a great thing," the comedian and talk-show host explained. "I think everything that we see in the media—whether it's television or film or anything you see—should represent everything that's happening in the world. I think everybody that is in the world should be seen and represented."
DeGeneres continues to note that she didn't know if the two women were in fact a couple, and that she didn't even know about the scene until she heard the rumor. "Then when I watched the premiere, I was looking for that particular scene, and it appears that there are two women."
There was one problem, though.
"One woman has a very bad short haircut, which I find very offensive," she joked. "If that's the definition of a gay woman, then how dare you? Just because someone has a short, bad haircut doesn't mean she's gay. [She just has a] bad hairdresser. So I don't know that that's the case."
Regardless, Ellen says, "It's a great conversation. Whether they intended it to be a woman with a bad, short haircut being gay or not, I think it's a great thing."
