Michael Tran/WireImageGigi Hadid was honored with the Our New Girlfriend Award at the 2016 Guys Choice Awards Saturday and said that in real life, she has always been a "good girlfriend."
E! News had learned last week the 21-year-old model and Zayn Malik, 23, had broken up after dating for about seven months. However, sources said the couple has "broken up and got back together a few times" and "can likely get back together tomorrow."
"I called a friend and was like, 'What do I say that's funny?'" Hadid said in her acceptance speech. "And she was like, "Try and think of like, something that you did [that was] mean to a crush in middle school and try to make a joke about that.' I was like, you know what? I have always been like, kind of like a good girlfriend! Like, even in middle school when I had crushes, like, I've always been like kind of nice!"
Hadid and Malik have not commented about the status of their relationship.
She has also previously dated singers Cody Simpson, 19, and Joe Jonas, 26. Hadid recently hosted a party celebrating Maybelline's new summer collection and reunited with Alli Simpson, Cody's sister.
At the event, she danced to Malik's single "Pillowtalk" and in an interview with ELLE, she cited "hang out with my boyfriend" as a favorite activity to do on a night at home but made no mention of the former One Direction singer.
Also during the Guys Choice Awards, Hadid paid tribute to late boxing legend Muhammad Ali, who died last week at age 74.
"I just wanted to say Muhammed Ali has touched me so much in my life and I'm so grateful to have met him," she said. "So I just wanted to openly say rest in peace, Muhammed...you're the champ!"
Other honorees at the 2016 Guys Choice Awards included Anna Kendrick, who received the Hot & Funny Award, and Julia Roberts, who won Woman of the Decade. She thanked her husband Danny Moder in her acceptance speech.
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon earned the highest honor, the Guys of the Decade Award. The longtime friends and co-stars bantered onstage, to the delight of the audience.
"I think it goes without saying that this is an award Matt and I have been dreaming about winning since we were little boys," Affleck said.
The two also gave shout-outs to celebrity duos Damon said were not "quite as decade-worthy," such as George Clooney and Brad Pitt ("F--k you guys," Affleck joked), Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, as well as brothers Liam Hemsworth and Chris Hemsworth.
"We're honored to share this fake award with all of you," Damon said.
The 2016 Guys Choice Awards will air on Spike TV on Thursday, June 9, at 9 p.m.
