What do you get when you combine dancing dogs, funny children, and one of the most notoriously brutal judges in reality TV?

Honestly, a really great time. Simon Cowell, America's Got Talent's newest judge, seemed to have a great time during tonight's premiere, whether he was judging children, unexpected acapella groups, guys with singing oven mitts, or one of the grossest acts we've ever not watched a second of.

Now, that's not to say he wasn't still Simon. We felt immediate fear for anyone attempting to audition as a singer, because he did not hold back. He told one member of a group that he should at least not be singing loud enough to hear him, and lambasted a girl for singing like she would at any other gig. Then, of course, all was made well by an incredible 13 year-old opera singer, and then everything was ruined again by a man whose idea of danger was jumping into a pool full of shaving cream and balloons.

Basically, it was America's Got Talent as it has always been.

While there were a few duds in the line-up tonight, there were also a few performances we had to watch more than once.

We're still completely baffled by Thommy and Amelie, also known as the Clairvoyants, after Amelie was able to guess not just the description of the things Thommy held in his hand, but the words they said on him. It was straight up insane, and we can't wait to see what else they have up their sleeves!

We were also blown away by Linkin' Bridge, the acapella group who definitely did their best to make everyone think they were not about to break into a beautiful, nearly angelic version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," but that's exactly what they did. And then they cried, and we cried, and it was beyond gorgeous.

Speaking of crying, we were also moved to tears by the from small-town Japan who put on a gorgeous show with projection, lights, and live birds. We still don't know how he did it, but it was a joy to watch.

America's Got Talent airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on NBC.
