Lauren Conrad, The Hills

MTV's heading for The Hills once again. Lauren Conrad, the star of the MTV reality show and its predecessor Laguna Beach, announced she's stepping in front of cameras once again for an anniversary special honoring The Hills' premiere date—May 31, 2006.

"Today is the 10th anniversary of The Hills! I am excited to announce that @MTV will premiere an anniversary special with me on Tuesday 8/2," she tweeted.

The show followed Conrad's move to Los Angeles from her Orange County home as she embarked on a career in fashion. It ran for six seasons, with Conrad departing in the fifth season. Conrad's fellow Laguna Beach cast member Kristin Cavallari replaced her as the focus of the series.

Never thought I'd see the day....

In The Hills: That Was Then, This Is Now, Conrad will address some of the show's best-kept secrets and "reveal what it was really like living her pivotal years on camera."

Plus, look for the author and lifestyle expert to explain how her tumultuous  early days in Los Angeles in front of the camera led to her current successful career and marriage. "As we reconnect with our favorite girl from Laguna, we realize she's grown up to be a cultural icon…and she's still not afraid to tell it like it is," MTV's show description reads.

Conrad hinted at a return to MTV on Instagram when she posted the above photo with the caption" Never thought I'd see the day..."

In a blog post, Conrad said she watched the pilot for the first time in a decade.

"I am so proud of the show. Without all the amazing people we were lucky enough to have working behind-the-scenes (especially the show's talented creator and executive producer, Adam Divello), it would have been just another easily-forgotten reality show," she wrote. "Instead, they made a show that documented—and at times created—my reality during those years in a unique and beautiful way."

She wrote she's using the special as a way to thank the fans she gained throughout her reality TV experience.

"I spent a lot of time thinking about how I would like to honor this anniversary and in the end, I just wanted to do something as a thank you to the fans. So I will be partnering with MTV on a special project that will air on August 2nd at 10 p.m.," she wrote on her site. "We will be having an honest conversation about what it was really like living with cameras for so many years (spoiler alert: it was super weird), sharing some behind-the-scene secrets, and showing some of my life today. And since this is all for you, please let me know below if there are any questions you have or if there is anything you would like to see addressed."

The Hills special airs Tuesday, Aug. 2 at 10 p.m. on MTV.
