Blake Shelton was caught completely off guard by his romance with Gwen Stefani.

The couple has been officially dating since November, but the country crooner is still surprised (in the best way, of course) about how they got together. "It's not something anybody could've seen coming besides God I guess because it doesn't look like it would make sense," Shelton told CMT's Katie Cook. "All I can tell you is that it does. It just makes the most perfect sense for us and where we're at in our lives."

Although their relationship has made them both incredibly happy, nevertheless leading to hit duet "Go Ahead and Break My Heart." But it turns out their love has meant more to them than either of them could have ever expected. "I tell people all the time, 'Gwen saved my life last year. She did," Shelton shared.

"I think she'd tell you something similar about me."

Despite neither one of them predicting their relationship, Shelton couldn't help but gush about how it has done wonders for him. "This thing just happened," he said. "It saved my life. Period."

To further the success of their hit duet, Shelton and Stefani performed it together on their music reality show, The Voice. Cook noted how the video already has spurred millions of views, but Shelton has an explanation.

"There's just been such media craze around us being together, I think that's why there's been a lot of views," he said.

The dynamic duo didn't plan on writing a song together, but when Stefani caught his eye he wanted to woo her. "It was odd because we wrote the song last fall sometime," he said of the songwriting process. "I started the song just because I was trying to impress her and I sent it to her on like voice memo. Just texted it to her."

Fortunately, Stefani loved it and sent him the next verse! Is that the sign of a musical power couple? Maybe.
