Netflix is getting a little more Marvel-ous—and deadly. The streaming platform has ordered a Daredevil spinoff series, Marvel's The Punisher starring Jon Bernthal. Bernthal played the role of Frank Castle, the vigilante Punisher, in the second season of Marvel's Daredevil.

"We want to thank the fans who are clamoring for more of Jon's stunning and powerful performance as Frank Castle from Marvel's Daredevil," Jeph Loeb, executive producer and head of Marvel Television, said in a statement. "Now combined with showrunner Steve Lightfoot's compelling writing, we're thrilled to bring Marvel's The Punisher to Netflix."

Netflix tweeted the below teaser video and changed its icon to The Punisher's trademark skull.

Lightfoot of Hannibal will serve as showrunner and executive producer on the series about the gun-toting vigilante.

"For me, the complexity and unpredictability of Frank Castle make him an incredibly compelling character and I couldn't be more excited to dive into his world," Lightfoot said in a statement. "After watching Jon's performance in Marvel's Daredevil I could not be more excited to be working with him to further develop and progress the story of this anti-hero in a show of his own."

The Punisher series joins Netflix's growing slate of Marvel shows. Luke Cage is due out this fall, with a second season of Jessica Jones already ordered and Iron Fist in the works. All heroes—including Daredevil—will come together in The Defenders miniseries.

In Marvel's Daredevil, Bernthal's character clashed with the titular hero, before ending up with a sort of mutual understanding. Punisher saved Daredevil's life at the end of the season.

"Jon hooked our global audience with his performance as Frank Castle from the moment he stepped on screen in 'Marvel's Daredevil,' and we are looking forward to seeing more of him in this role under the vision of Steve Lightfoot," Cindy Holland, vice president of original content, said in a statement.

Bernthal is no stranger to comic book TV shows. He spent two seasons on The Walking Dead as Shane.
